Those of you who clicked on this diary thinking, or maybe even hoping, that it was going to be yet ANOTHER diary trashing Edwards -- sorry, nope, not this one. No, the disappointent I'm referring to in my title is in you. You know who you are.
I'm talking about those of you who call yourselves progressive but couldn't wait to trash the one candidate this year who was able to create a national dialogue around the issue of poverty and economic justice and everything that term entails -- while also shining a spotlight on the insane corporate greed that is, without a doubt, destroying our country.
Edwards introduced us to some of those nameless, faceless millions who lost their jobs because their employer cared more about making a profit than the welfare of their workers. The nameless, faceless millions that struggle with health insurance costs, and who sometimes loose loved ones when healthcare companies prioritize their profits over the health and survival of their customers.
He changed the debate and our country, however briefly, was the better for it. While the diarists and commenters I am writing to have clearly forgotten the positive impact Edwards had when he was still in the race, I will not.
No one can say what his next steps will be. Who knows why he is folding up some of the organizations he created. Maybe funding dried up. Maybe Elizabeth's health has taken a turn for the worse. Maybe he's going to create new organizations. Who the hell knows. I'm pretty sure you who are trashing him don't.
I can say with absolute confidence that whatever his next progressive project is, I will be right there supporting his work.
