Much has been said on this site about how very lucky Democrats have been this year with the array of smart, accomplished, impressive and diverse candidates for President we've had. I, along with many others, have been postively gleeful at the Republicans' dismal choices. When John McCain emerged as the Republican front-runner, I was even more gleeful because all I kept hearing was how much Republicans really didn't like McCain.
We are now down to two choices on our side, and whether you support Hillary Clinton or Barak Obama, I hope that the vast majority of us would agree that either candidate would make an infinitely better president than John McCain.
So imagine my surprise when I read today on Rasussen Reports that McCain, the man Republicans love to hate, has less core opposition than Obama or Clinton!
Check out these numbers: According to Rasmussen Reports,
34% of all voters say they will definitely vote for McCain if he is on the ballot in November.
33% will definitely vote against him.
29% say their support depends on who his opponent is.
34% will definitely vote for Obama.
43% will definately vote against him.
18% say their support depends on who is opponent is.
32% will definitely vote for Clinton.
46% will definitely vote against her.
Numbers were not provided for the last category.
What's even more troubling is that the report says that core opposition to McCain has stayed the same since December, and that opposition to Obama has increased 7%. Again, there were no numbers on this question for Clinton.
I don't have a deep analysis to share, I'm just a little stunned. It's only one poll, but the results are certainly disappointing.
Any thoughts?
